Some Businesses Genuinely Prefer Small, Frequent Bills

Quarterly billing has a defensible purpose. A company managing tight cash does not always want a full year of a service charged at once, and four smaller debits can be easier to absorb than one larger one. Nothing about the schedule is deceptive in itself.

The difficulty is comparative. Registered agent service is quoted annually almost everywhere else, so a $149 sitting next to a $99 and a $125 reads as a mid-range price when it is nothing of the sort.

Four Times $149 Is the Number to Compare

$149 per quarter works out to roughly $596 a year. That is the figure to put in the spreadsheet.

We found no separate first-year discount, so the annualized rate applies from the opening quarter onward.

Set That Against What Florida Itself Charges

Here is the comparison that makes $596 concrete.

Florida charges an LLC $138.75 for its annual report, due by May 1. File late and the state adds $400, a penalty the Division of Corporations does not waive under any circumstances, taking the total to $538.75. That $538.75 is the worst annual bill Florida can send an LLC that files late but stays on the register.

An agent service billed at $149 a quarter costs more per year than that.

Sit with it for a second. The maximum the state can charge you for missing its only annual deadline comes in under an annualized quarterly agent fee. Whatever else that says, it says the comparison is not close.

So there is one habit worth adopting whichever vendor you pick. Store the yearly figure, not the quarterly one. The instant $149 gets written down as the price, every later comparison you make against it is wrong by a factor of four, and that error tends to survive for years because nothing ever prompts you to recheck it.

$99, and That Is the Whole Bill

One charge a year. $99. Next year, $99.

Two details make that sequence worth following exactly. First, the quarter you have already paid for keeps running whether or not you have moved, so there is no financial reason to cancel early and a good reason not to: coverage should overlap, never gap. Second, Fla. Stat. § 605.0116 allows a registered agent to resign on its own initiative, a reminder that this appointment can fall vacant without you doing anything at all. An appointment you have actively replaced is a safer thing than one you have merely stopped paying for.
