Service of Process in Florida

Service of process is the formal delivery of legal documents — most often a lawsuit — to your business. In Florida, that delivery is required by law to go to your registered agent, not to you directly.

What Counts as Service of Process

• Summons and complaint — the opening documents in a civil lawsuit
• Subpoenas — orders to produce records or appear as a witness
• Garnishments and writs — court orders tied to debts or judgments
• Other court filings that Florida law requires to be formally served on an entity

General correspondence, marketing mail, and vendor invoices are not service of process, even if they arrive at the same address.

Why It Goes to Your Registered Agent

Florida Statutes Chapter 605 (LLCs) and Chapter 607 (corporations) require every registered entity to keep a registered agent with a Florida street address specifically so process servers, sheriffs, and courts have a reliable place to deliver legal papers. Skipping this requirement — or letting your agent lapse — puts your entity at risk of a default judgment, because Florida courts can authorize alternative service if no valid agent is on file.

What Happens When We Receive It

1. A process server or courier delivers the documents to our Florida address during business hours.
2. We scan the documents the same business day.
3. You receive an email notification the moment the scan is uploaded to your secure portal.
4. You (or your attorney) review the documents and respond within the court's deadline.

Once service of process is received, the clock starts on your response window, which is typically short. Same-day scanning exists specifically so you are not losing days to mail transit or a missed delivery.

Registered Agent vs. Mail Forwarding

Service of process handling is distinct from general mail service. We are not a mailbox or mail-forwarding provider — our address exists to receive legal and state-required documents for your entity, which we scan and deliver digitally. Government mail that lands at our address by mistake is scanned free for your first three pieces each year; anything beyond that, or physical forwarding, is handled per piece.
